چکیده

Comparison is made of the electronic structure of the little-studied layered transition metal oxide LiNbO2 with that of NaxCoO2, which has attracted tremendous interest since superconductivity was discovered in its hydrate. Although the active transition metal d states are quite different due to different crystal fields and band filling, both systems show a strong change of electronic structure with changes in the distance between the transition metal ion layer and the oxygen layers. The niobate is unusual in having a large secondneighbor hopping amplitude, and a nearest-neighbor hopping amplitude that is sensitive to the Nb–O separation. LixNbO2 also presents the attractive simplicity of a single band triangular lattice system with variable carrier concentration that is superconducting. r 2006 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Persistent Photoinduced Effects in High - T , Superconductors

The field of superconductivity has gained much attention in recent years due to the discovery of the high temperature cuprate superconductors. Besides their high transition temperature (T,s up to = 160 K), they show a variety of physical properties that are remarkably different from those of conventional superconductors. Two of these are persistent photoconductivity (PPC) and persistent photoin...

Anomalous High-Energy Waterfall-Like Electronic Structure in 5 d Transition Metal Oxide Sr2IrO4 with a Strong Spin-Orbit Coupling

The low energy electronic structure of Sr2IrO4 has been well studied and understood in terms of an effective Jeff = 1/2 Mott insulator model. However, little work has been done in studying its high energy electronic behaviors. Here we report a new observation of the anomalous high energy electronic structure in Sr2IrO4. By taking high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission measurements on Sr2I...

Disordered RuO2 exhibits two dimensional, low-mobility transport and a metal–insulator transition

The discovery of low-dimensional metallic systems such as high-mobility metal oxide field-effect transistors, the cuprate superconductors, and conducting oxide interfaces (e.g., LaAlO3/SrTiO3) has stimulated research into the nature of electronic transport in two-dimensional systems given that the seminal theory for transport in disordered metals predicts that the metallic state cannot exist in...

Electronic evidence of an insulator-superconductor crossover in single-layer FeSe/SrTiO3 films.

In high-temperature cuprate superconductors, it is now generally agreed that superconductivity is realized by doping an antiferromagnetic Mott (charge transfer) insulator. The doping-induced insulator-to-superconductor transition has been widely observed in cuprates, which provides important information for understanding the superconductivity mechanism. In the iron-based superconductors, howeve...

Normal-state C-axis Resistivity of the High-tc Cuprate Superconductors

It is shown that a strong intraplanar incoherent scattering can effectively block the interplanar coherent tunneling between the weakly coupled planes of the highly anisotropic but clean (intrinsic) materials such as the optimally doped high-Tc layered cuprate superconductors. The calculated normal-state C-axis resistivity ρc(T ) then follows the metal-like temperature dependence of the ab-plan...
